Founder & Formulator

MacuRest was formulated by Dr. Louis Michaelos, a board-certified ophthalmologist practicing in the Tampa Bay area, FL. Dr. Michaelos created MacuRest based on his clinical experience treating patients with age-related macular degeneration.

AREDS2 Reference Disclosure

MacuRest references the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2), a clinical trial conducted by the National Eye Institute (NEI), part of the National Institutes of Health. MacuRest is inspired by the nutrient combination studied in that trial but is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NEI, NIH, or any government agency. MacuRest's formula includes modifications from the original AREDS2 trial doses, including a reduced zinc level of 25mg (vs. 80mg in the trial) selected for tolerability, and the addition of melatonin 5mg and B-complex vitamins, which were not part of the AREDS2 trial.

Melatonin Research Disclosure

References to research on melatonin and age-related macular degeneration, including the 2024 JAMA Ophthalmology observational study, are provided for educational purposes. Observational studies establish association, not causation. MacuRest does not claim that melatonin treats, cures, or prevents AMD. Consult your ophthalmologist regarding any changes to your supplement regimen.
